Somatic movement, Yoga + Meditation
I am a multi-ethnic, intercultural, Guyanese-British-Canadian, a racial justice educator, specializing in health & education equity and in healing racial trauma from a somatic, body-based perspective. In this work, we collectively build opportunities for Indigenous, Black and racialized individuals who have been historically over-exploited, excluded, and pushed out of health and wellness systems.
Along with educational workshops, I practice and integrate yoga, meditation, embodiment practice and Thai massage into movement and healing sessions.
I am a yoga and meditation instructor, with 2000+ hours of practice in somatics, meditation, pranayama breathwork, yoga, Mayan Abdominal Massage and Thai Massage. I have been blessed to guide yoga and meditation sessions in Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Belize, Nicaragua, Portugal, Bali, and Canada, with the intention is to use mindfulness, movement, empowering language, and conscious music to create welcoming spaces and classes that amplify a sense of belonging for every individual.
Shared movement and breathing sessions are a powerful and effective way to co-regulate bodies in a shared space. Shared movement sessions and embodiment practice through yoga, meditation, breathwork and partner Thai-massage is an incredible way for children, youth and adults to build empathy and collective bonding together.
Sessions may be booked as stand-alone experiences or as a series of sessions for your classroom, agency, community or team.
Each session includes a short discussion on the importance of co-regulation as well as movement, meditation and breathing.
Guided partner Thai-Massage or movement can be integrated into sessions for groups who feel as though collective and personal touch is appropriate for their team. Individuals are always offered the option to opt-out of partner exercises and are encouraged to define their own boundaries for what feels right for their body, in that moment.
All sessions are guided through a social justice and trauma-responsive lens.
Participants are encouraged to wear any clothing that feels comfortable for their body and are invited to wear clothing that feels right for their own ethnicity or culture.
Music is optional for the sessions. All music is consciously chosen with the intention of elevating embodied practice. Groups are welcome to request music that connects to their own religion, ethnicity or practice.
All sessions are created with the intention of offering agency and choice to each participant to build their own sense of resource.
